FAQS

Why pet sitting & dog walking?

At home pet sitting is a wonderful alternative to boarding your Precious pets. Your animals are able to stay in their own environment with no added stress or loneliness. Your pets routines are followed as closely as possible & you have a happy exercised pet upon your return.

Why use Keep'em Waggin Pet Services?

My passion for animals exudes in my work. There is nothing more satisfying than finding a pet sitter you can trust, some one who is reliable & good with your pets. I come into your home & treat your loved ones as I do my own. With my services you will be provided with a daily diary so you won’t miss a beat on your little ones day. You will also receive update by your choice of communication & the security of knowing your home is secure & your animals are safe.

What type of pets do you serve?

My clients are primarily cats and dogs. However, on occasion I take care of fish, rabbits, and birds.

What can I expect during my free in home consultation?

During our meet & greet we will get comfortable with one another & it gives me the opportunity to spend some quality time with your pet & become familiar with their surroundings. I will be taking detailed notes of their schedule, feedings, play time (favorite toys, favorite TV/Radio station, favorite room to lay in, etc) exercise routine, location of all proper necessities (pet food, medications, leashes, toys, products for accident clean up, etc). I will find out from you where your cats like to hide, where the animal likes to be rubbed, if they like to be brushed. If your pet is timed what actions you take, etc. As well I will note any extras you may request. At the time of our visit I will have a contract for you to leave detailed notes for all of your pets needs. This is a very important visit & it gives you the opportunity to make sure you are comfortable & feel a connection with your pet sitter.

How much advance notice do you require before service?

You should contact me as soon as you have made plans so I can put you on the schedule. Two weeks is always enough time to schedule your initial consultation before your service. However, I can work with less time available as well. Once you are an existing client, I can usually work with you on very short notice.

I have a last minute trip suddenly come up, can you help me?

I will always try to help you on short notice, but cannot guarantee availability if there is very little time before your service begins. I regularly book up completely at major holidays and end up turning away last minute callers.

Do you pet sit outside your service area?

My standard service area is Laguna Niguel, Aliso Viejo, Ocean Ranch, Mission Viejo, Ladera Ranch, Laguna Hills, and Laguna Woods. However, I do offer services outside the service area for an additional charge.

How long is a standard visit?

Standard pet sitting visit is 30 to 40 minutes in length. Standard dog walking visit is 30 minutes of walking time (from when I leave with your dog until we return to your home).

Can you spend extra time with my pets?

If you would like a longer visit, it can be arranged for an additional fee.

What is the earliest and the latest you can visit?

My earliest visit in the morning is 6:30am; latest visit is 8:00pm. If you want me to come twice each day, I usually make the visits 12 hours apart. If you want the earliest visit possible and the latest visit possible, I will try to accommodate you.

What does it mean that you are insured?

Liability Insurance policy protects you from financial loss in the event we are liable for accidents that occur while caring for your pets. Any responsible professional business should carry liability insurance.

What does it mean that you are bonded?

This gives you peace of mind that you will be reimbursed if anything is stolen from your home. You should make sure that any workers who enter your home carry a dishonesty bond.

Will you need to see proof of vaccination for my pets?

Please be prepared to show records of up to date vaccinations.

What will you do if my pet becomes ill while I am away?

If I suspect that something is wrong with your pet, I will call you at the emergency phone numbers we have on file for you. I will describe the situation with your pet. If you believe the veterinarian should see your pet, I will transport your pet to the veterinarian's office for examination and treatment. In the event we cannot reach you, I will decide if your pet should be seen by the veterinarian. If necessary, I will take your pet for treatment. Included with your contract on your initial visit will be a waiver for you to sign for medical emergencies. You can depend on me to take your place in the life of your pet & provide them with the time & care they will need while you are away. You will be billed for any extra time I spend for these services.

What should I expect when I return home?

You will return home to find your pet comfortable & well cared for. You will find your mail & any packages well organized (not in front of any window for an intruder to see), a daily diary of your pet visits & a reminder for you to call & let me know you have returned safely. You will also find an invoice for my services.

What happens if I don't call you when I return home?

If I don't hear from you within a reasonable time, I will call you to see if you've returned home. If necessary, I call your emergency contact information. If I am unable to reach you, I will make an additional visit out to your home and you will be charged for a visit. It is in the best interest of your pets, they are my priority & I must know that they are being cared for.

What forms of payment do you accept?

I accept cash and checks.

Do you require advance payment, or a deposit?

During your free initial consultation, I may ask for an advance payment or deposit for your initial service. Once you are an established client, I do not require deposits.

Do I need to give you a key to my house?

Two keys are required (one for back up, in the best interest of your pet it is important to always have a back up key). If you do not have a key ready for me at the consultation, you will need to get the keys to me before service begins.

How will you get my key back to me after the service is completed?

I can mail your keys back to you. If you need your keys sooner, I can arrange for you to get it faster but a return key fee will be charged.

Can you keep my key on file?

Many of my clients like the convenience of keeping their keys on file. That way, when you need my services again, all you have to do is call or email. You don't need to drop off your key. When your key is kept on file, it is stored in a numerical system. Your key is assigned a number, and it does not have your name attached to it. The keys are in a secure lock box.

Can you pet sit for my pet that is sometimes aggressive?

During your free initial consultation, if I feel your pet is too aggressive, I will not be able to accept the job. If your pet has a history of biting or is generally aggressive with unfamiliar people, it is best to consider boarding your pet or have someone your pet is very comfortable with for mid day walks.

What special steps do you take with a shy cat that hides all the time?

Many cats are shy, especially with new people. If your cat hides, I will ask you to show me the favorite hiding places. I will search your house for your cat to make sure he is only hiding and not injured. Even if your cat hides, I will spend the full visit time at your house. Often cats that hide on the first visit will come out to visit and get attention on the second visit.
